What Sets Us Apart?

As you look to decide who you want to take you fishing, we want you to know what sets us apart and take a chance to tell you our story.  We want your business and to share our passion with you!

In 2013, Randy Ford, head guide and owner, guided the first ever ice fishing trip at the lake.  Since then he has lead the growth of guided fishing at lake Dillon. Randy was the first ice fishing guide to ever run a trip on the lake and now there are over 10 outfits permitted to run on the lake. The amount of fishing at Dillon has increased drastically at Lake Dillon and it’s largely in part through Randy providing opportunities to other guides to guide on the lake and being a leader in consistently producing the best of what lake  Dillon has to offer!

Randy knows lake Dillon like no other guide on the lake, he is a true original and and a fourth generation Colorado native!

In 2017 one of Randy’s clients turned in a state record Arctic char, and since then, several of our clients have released state record sized fish!

Back when he was just a kid in the mid 80’s, he caught his first brown trout and largest fish at the time off the shores of lake dillon.  Randy’s long time connection to the lake, along with his deep knowledge and experience in guiding since 1996, has been a big part of what sets us apart and what has brought us up to the Best rated Fishing guides on lake Dillon!

Read the Summit Daily News Article about predictions that big fish are getting bigger.

Lake Dillon is 2800 acre high alpine reservoir nested in the Blue River Valley in Summit County Colorado within minutes of Colorados three largest Ski Resorts. The majestic beauty of Lake Dillon always precedes the fishing and makes every trip worth it, no matter what.

Our most common catch at Lake Dillon are Rainbow Trout followed by Kokanee Salmon.

Arctic Char and Brown Trout.  Every year we get around 30,000 catchable trout stocked, and we have naturally reproducing populations of Kokannee Salmon, Arctic Char and Brown Trout.  The Arctic Char were stocked from 2008 through 2015 and have been maintaining a targetable and catchable population.  Dillon is on of two or three places in the mainland United States that you can catch Arctic Char.  The Kokanee salmon haven’t been stocked for over 40 years and Dillon boasts an over abundance of these small salmon!  For their size they are hard fighting and good to eat.

The brown trout have never been stocked in the reservoir and are a wild self sustaining population. The brown trout are our largest most illusive fish to target.

Dillon has three major River inlets the main being the Blue River that comes down from Breckenridge, the Ten Mile that runs down from Copper Mountain and Vail pass, and the Snake River that runs in from Keystone.  Out in the main reservoir, there are beautiful bays, ledges, benches and structures that we fish using a variety of techniques.  The deepest part of Dillon Reservoir is about 250 feet.

The reservoir inlets typically freeze up in early November, and the main lake won’t typically thaw until early May.

Lake Dillon mimics the environment of the lower Arctic Circle due to its high elevation of 9017 feet!  In the summer Lake Dillon has very mild weather, normally it’s not too hot or too cool.  In the winter, Lake Dillon is a true winter wonderland.
